Janis Sechrest

Janis has a rather broad array of interests that have influenced her academic career. Since she was young, she began developing a love for the arts, and later into her high school years she started exploring her interest in the automotive field. After graduating high school, she attended NTI, a technical school for automotive technology. Once she received her degree from NTI, she decided that she still wanted to further her education. Janis completed her Associates at Craven Community College, and started at George Mason University in spring of 2017, originally pursuing a degree in business management. Although she enjoyed her classes, after only two weeks into her first art history elective she knew she had found her passion and needed to switch degree paths. She plans to graduate this spring, with a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and is very excited to gain more knowledge and experience within the field. After graduation, she plans to pursue her Master of Arts and would love to be able to explore different departments of a museum or gallery, whether working in an educational department, helping with curatorial work, or serving on an archive management team. One of her primary goals is to work towards becoming an art history professor and help educate future students on the joy of art history.
