Kristofer Stinson

Kristofer is a first year PhD student from California. He received his Bachelor of Arts in History from Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho and his Master of Arts in History from George Mason University and hopes to one day teach at a four year, liberal arts institution. Kristofer’s research is primarily concerned with the religious and intellectual culture of the early American republic. His current project is on the rise of archaeology and its effects on Americans’ developing notions of religion, exceptionalism, and empire.

Professor Lincoln Mullen calls Kris “an excellent scholar who has effectively combined the history of American religion, the political and cultural history of early America, and his knowledge of classical antiquity.” Professor Zagarri notes he is “eager to embrace, new historical methodologies and approaches and welcomes intellectual challenges . . . He is an ideal graduate student: intellectually curious, an indefatigable researcher, and an imaginative thinker”
