Gregory Oler

Born in Southern California, Greg Oler transferred from Moorpark College to George Mason University and drove from Los Angeles to Fairfax, understanding that his passion and dream was to pursue a career in public service and federal government. At George Mason, Greg is a senior in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and a History major with minors in Japanese Studies and Global Systems. Although a first-generation college student and transfer student, Greg has worked hard to make the most of his time at George Mason. With a career in the Department of State as his dream, Greg has done two internships at the Department of State as a Paid Student Intern and a Virtual Student Federal Service intern. It has not been easy to balance school, internships, and his day job as a Fairfax County Public Schools Substitute, but Greg has a clear vision of his dream in public service, and being immersed in a completely new environment has been rewarding. After George Mason, Greg is on track to participate in the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program as a Coordinator for International Relations, a role that will once again put Greg in a new environment but will allow him to gain experience in International Relations he desires. After the JET Program, Greg will use his participation in George Mason's Peace Corps Prep Program to serve in the Peace Corps in Vietnam. Understanding the history and volatile relationship between Vietnam and the United States, Greg has been inspired by the reimagined relationship and reciprocity that Vietnam and the United States have experienced in recent years. Being able to contribute to this new era and relationship is a dream for Greg, and he hopes that the Peace Corps will be a springboard and foundation for a career in international relations, diplomacy, and public service.
