Annabelle Spencer

Annabelle Spencer is graduating in May with her master’s degree in History with the certificate in Digital Public Humanities. She is from Tennessee where she got her bachelor’s degree, also in history, from Austin Peay State University. Her research interest is in 19th century United States gender history with a particular focus also on race and the American South. Her work has often combined these themes in the study of enslaved and freed African American women, the construction of motherhood across racial divides, freedom seeking, fugitivity as reproductive autonomy, and kinship networks. In the fall, she will be continuing here at Mason, starting in the PhD program where she will continue to train in these content fields and digital tools.
