LaQuanda Walters Cooper

LaQuanda Walters Cooper is a doctoral candidate in the history program. Her dissertation investigates Black politics, commemorative culture, and placemaking in post-Reconstruction North Carolina. She received her BA in history and MA in education with a concentration in special education from the University of Saint Joseph, and her MA in historical studies with a concentration in public history from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Before coming to Mason, she spent fifteen years in middle and high school classrooms, teaching history and social studies. At Mason, LaQuanda was a Digital History Fellow at the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media. After completing her PhD, LaQuanda hopes to continue her work in the public humanities.
